Join The Lumen Prize, one of the world's top digital art awards, on September 29th, 2016 for an afternoon and evening of talks, cutting-edge artist films and interactive digital art installations from around the world. In the evening, the winners' of the 2016 Lumen Prize will be announced with awards presented by top curators, gallerists and past winners followed by a BBQ supplied by the wonderful Canababes.
We're excited that the top floor of Hackney House will be taken over by the Lumen art itself for the entire afternoon and evening, allowing you a chance to delve into worlds of gaming, VR as well as stunning, interactive digital art and music
Digital Art Seminar 2pm - 5pm
Collecting & Curating Digital Art. Chaired by Foteini Aravani, Digital Curator at the Museum of London, this panel will explore the challenges and opportunities digital art poses to collecting and curatorial practices.
Speakers include: Mila Askarova (Director of Gazelli Art House), Carla Gannis (Artist and Professor of Digital Arts at the Pratt Institute, NY) and Poppy Simpson (Head of Content & Curation at Meural)
Digital Art in the Public Sphere. As projectors, screens and ephemeral art has moved into our points of access, this panel will examine how the nature of public art is changing.
Speakers include: Sean Clark (Artist and researcher), Phil Dawson (Allied London) and Rachel Falconer (Independent curator, writer and development consultant)
Virtual and Augmented Reality in Digital Art. Chaired by Michael Takeo Magruder, winner of the 2015 Immersive Environment Award, three artists embracing this technology explore the potential it has as a medium.
Speakers include: Matteo Zamagni (Artist), Tom Szirtes (Artist and Founder of Mbryonic ), Iain Nicholls (Artist).
A number of 2016 Lumen Prize artists will be giving talks during the session including Rachel Ara and boredomresearch.
Lumen Prize Winners Gala 5.30pm - 9.30pm
An evening of cutting-edge artist films and installations from around the world plus see the winners announced + prize giving at 6pm.
ABOUT LUMEN: Founded in 2012, The Lumen Prize celebrates the very best art created digitally by artists globally. Its goal is to celebrate and build understanding of this exciting contemporary art genre through an annual competition and global tour of works selected by an international panel of judges.
